Introducing Quell, a self-therapy accessory collection seamlessly blending acupressure and reflexology for brief yet effective anxiety and stress relief. Elevate well-being with purposeful design for moments of calm and rejuvenation.
This exploration began with investigating the mind’s connection to the body; the fight between the mind’s instinct to wonder and the body’s urge to react.  Observing distressed moments and actions  in my surroundings made me  extrapolate commonalities in anxious movements amongst a larger group of people.
Experts suggest recognizing anxiety in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder to be particularly important since it greatly impacts repetitive behaviors and social withdrawal. Thus,  designing for this population felt important as once the requirements of a niche group are met, they often coincide with the needs of a wider population.
Research
The Collection
Using traditional Chinese medicine practices of acupressure and reflexology, the pieces promote the stimulation and flow of energy through the body. The collection includes four wearable accessories, a fidget object, along with packaging that is used to protect and store the products, while providing the user with an alternative sensory object.
Each piece is thoughtfully designed to target distinct acupressure points on the hand. Informed by the ancient sciences of acupressure and reflexology, these accessories provide a profound and soothing sensation, promoting relaxation and stress relief. The precision behind the designs stems from a deep understanding of the body's energy pathways, ensuring that each touchpoint offers a harmonious and rejuvenating experience.

User Testing & Feedback
I then took these models to users and professionals working closely with the adults on the spectrum. From a meeting with a special education teacher, I learned the importance of weight and rigidness when it comes to the sensation of touch, which prompted my choices in materiality for the points.
Speaking to two individuals on the autism spectrum, diagnosed with forms of anxiety disorders, I learned about their experiences dealing with anxiety. I gained insights into the wearability and function of these products. Their overall feedback on the collection further validated my discoveries about anxiety and its presence specifically in ASD.
Final Product
The final pieces are casted in sterling silver and brass, with gemstones integrated on the touch points, offering a touch of personalized luxury. The selection includes amethyst, known for its calming properties; rose quartz, fostering emotional well-being; jade, symbolizing harmony; and lapis lazuli, promoting stress relief. Beyond their aesthetic allure, these gemstones bring holistic benefits, aligning seamlessly with the collection's purpose of alleviating anxiety. The inclusion of both sterling silver and brass allows for customization, providing users the freedom to choose a material that resonates most with their individual style. The result is not just an accessory but a tailored experience that harmoniously blends therapeutic properties with personalized aesthetics.
Through the strategic placement of pressure points, the accessories leverage these ancient techniques to enhance overall well-being. By aligning with the body's natural energy flow, each piece contributes to a holistic approach to self-care, offering a therapeutic respite from the demands of modern life.
Beyond their therapeutic efficacy, our accessories boast a minimalist and discreet design, seamlessly blending functionality with aesthetics. Each piece is a testament to the marriage of form and function, ensuring that they not only serve a purpose but also elevate your style. The understated elegance of the designs allows for discreet use, enabling you to incorporate these therapeutic elements seamlessly into your daily routine - whether it's in public or at home.

Presenting Quell
Introducing the project to both a  jury and exhibition visitors was an exciting highlight. Through a dynamic presentation and immersive exhibition, I offered a glimpse into the project's journey from inception to completion. From a striking infographic to inventive product displays and informative cards, each element was designed to convey the project's essence. People were able to try the product and provide feedback on the usability and design. The accompanying progress book included the evolution of the project, showcasing the depth of research and creative process involved - a testament to the project's impact and innovation.
Future Actions
Being invited by Al Serkal Advisory in Dubai UAE, marked an exhilarating opportunity to push the project forward. Initially, I showcased my work in an exhibition alongside fellow designers, amplifying its visibility and impact. The subsequent invitation to a Maker's Pechakucha event, where I shared the stage with six other speakers, further elevated the project's reach. As a speaker, I engaged with diverse audiences, sharing insights and perspectives that resonated with a wide spectrum of individuals. These experiences not only expanded the project's audience but also fostered meaningful collaborations, igniting new possibilities for its continued growth and influence.
